Activities included a history lesson of the schoolhouse, writing with dip pens and ink wells, and poetry recitations. WOW-Walking Outside for Wellness This month, Day School students participated in our annual WOW walking event. The WOW program is designed to encourage students to be outside and be active! At recess students walk or run laps around the field and collect wrist bands at a designated checkpoint. At the end of recess, parent volunteers record the number of laps in a class booklet. Classes with the most laps will win the coveted prize of extra recess! Thank you to Mrs. Carpenter and all of the parent volunteers who made this event a tremendous success! Mrs. Perron and Mrs. Lampros received grant money, from the WEF, to purchase iPad Minis with the intent of creating STEAM lessons, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math, with their students.

Your child will need to explain to you how we named the videos, since we didn’t want any way to personal identify the artists. Mrs. Lampros will soon have her classes create compositions and record music to to accompany the movies. Happy Birthday Beverly Cleary!!! Day School students celebrated children's author Beverly Cleary's 100th birthday by making cards. Beverly Cleary is the world famous author of over 40 award-winning books for school-age kids. When Beverly was little, she was a struggling reader. She didn’t to learn to read until she was in the 2nd grade. When she did learn to read, she had trouble finding books that interested her; they were boring! When she grew up, she decided to write books that kids would find interesting with characters that behaved like real kids! Her books include: Ramona Quimby, Age 8, Muggie Maggie, The Mouse and the Motorcycle, and many more! Her novels have been published in 20 countries and in more than 14 different languages! Anyone who calls themselves a reader should absolutely check out her work! All cards will be sent to Mrs. Cleary in time for her birthday on April 12th! We are grateful to parent Ramona Donaruma and Beth Poirier for organizing this project for Day School students. Thanks, Mrs. Trantanella and Mrs. Taylor-Teran for creating space in the library for this special birthday tribute!
Third grader Addison Chandler and her fellow Brownies Troop 86419 decided to give back to their school communities when they learned that the schools do not have a designated budget for acquiring new library books. The girls felt it was important to support their school library programs so they chose to spend half of the money earned selling cookies to buy new books for the Abbot and Day School libraries. On Thursday, March 31st, Addison and troop leader Katrina Munichiello presented a stack of books to Day School Library/medial specialist Mrs. TaylorTeran, Day School library assistant Mrs. Trantanella and Day School principal Kevin Regan. The Day School is very excited to accept this generous donation from Addison and her brownie troop. Thank you!!
